Hello, so instruments recording at the mo? When will it be for voices? When mixing? How do you decide when a song has to be modified or repealled/cut and who is part of those decisions "team" and who's got the final decision?
We are working on vocals at the moment, Pollard is belting it out as i type
Do/Did you ever watch your shows on video and if yes, what do you think when you see yourself on stage?
we don’t tend to do that often to be honest , once we have played a show and so forth its done and we prefer the memory of the show as it’s happening. occasionally we will watch ourselves on youtube if one us fell over so we can laugh !!
Hi there, here are some questions we thought about. As the new album seems to be more experimental, should we expect the tracks to be longer than usual? Will the new album be like your previous one about your vision of the world and our society? Do you have projects with others artists outside the collective? How was The Rock en Seine gig from your side? Thank U for your time.
Some of the tracks are lengthy as is always the case with Archive, the concept of the album has moved on from controlling crowds.we have other projects Darius has been working with a group called safx and Dave has collaborated on Robin Fosters New album which is out now plus he has just finished recording and mixing the second birdpen album.
The Rock en seine gig was amazing for us and we loved it.. it was a great experience and we hope to play more shows of that size and stature.
Hi, you arguing even having a row someitmes, don't you? How far can it go? How do you deal with afterwards? Thanks.
someone has to make the other person a sandwich and then everything is ok. we are passionate about what we do so sometimes things get heated but that’s natural and we all have an understanding of each other so we talk about things. We also have a private councelor and therapist, like Brian Wilson !!
Hi guys,we miss you so much already ! Dave, how can you deal with touring 2 years and a half with Archive while writing, waiting, hoping, finishing, promoting the LONG AWAITED Birdpen 2nd masterpiece ? Merry Xmas to the Collective ! Love from Brussels and LIEGE !
I work as hard as I can whilst I can.. I have more projects on the go as-well as I enjoy working in music, it’s the best job in the world for me plus I take power naps !!
Hi ! Why do you never play Michel Vaillant's music in live ? It's a very good album ! Thanks !
We have done in the past and ‘Bridge Scene’ is an incredible live track and we love playing it, it’s just that we have a hell of a lot of song’s to choose from and as you may know some of those are not very short and we only have a certain amount of time to play them….
When? I don't expect precise date, just is the new album matter of weeks or months?
The album will not be released until next september, but we will obviously have single’s and maybe an EP out before that. It seems like a long way off but by the time we finish mixing the album it will be nearly March and things will move very quickly from then on…
This is day two of recording the guitar parts for the new album. So difficult to stay focused on playing when all you want to do is close your eyes and dance about. The tunes are fantastic and with every new layer added they just keep growing and blossoming into huge, emotional pieces of music. As usual I have ended up hitting every button on every pedal and making some pretty strange noises. Great fun. Anyway,we are all starving and Pollard has the lunch money. Where is he? he said he’d be here by now…………………..
So we’ve got Mr Steve Harris or Dirty H as he’s known affectionately to his band mates in the studio today for the first of 2 days of guitars. Smiley didn’t take long to nail the drums he’s so used to the way we work nowadays he comes in smiles, bangs away like a bastard, smiles, has a coffee, smiles, bangs away again for awhile adding shit loads of energy and rawness to each tune, smiles, stays for dinner, smiles and shoots off home only to return the next morning for more genius drumming and smiling. Then The Master Noycey (if he was here now i would bow) arrived with many a bass and a moog in hand to add his own cool calm frantic heavy basslines as perfect as ever, he’s not called The Master for nothing, to the tracks that needed cool calm frantic basslines, then had dinner and left for home to return 2 days later for more. So now it’s Harris’s turn and its already sounding great, i will get him to let you know how it goes………Cheers Danny x
We are assembled. Work has begun in earnest here in north London on a new phase in the Archive story. A strange brew is stewing here in our compound, one that has sharp angles and secret places. This one tastes of love. And where there is love, you will find Archive.
And Geri Halliwell, but that’s a story for another time and place.
So viva my brothers Jerome, Darius, Dan, Pollard, Dave, Smiley and Steve. To my sisters too. Special props to Helen, who assists, lifts and supplies ably here to all here at the compound.
I left some bass and a lot of love for you all, right here.
Its a strange situation being the drummer with Archive.. You enter the recording process at a strange time.. Like 5 minutes before last orders or walking into a shop as the shutters are starting to come down.. You see the genius has already been created.. The ideas are down in an embrionic form.. but they are seeds that are already sown .. So I come in with a limited amount of room in which to create something that will fit, that will not clash or take away from.. or as its known in musical terms.. Nause Darius off..
This is my 6th studio album with the mighty Archive. My 1st experience was to record a 16 minute ditty called Again.. I dont think I was ever quite the same again after that.. The good news for all of you out there in Archivia is that these new tracks.. in the days before Me Harris and Noyce are astonishing.. Raising the bar even higher.. Wider brighter deeper harder dreamier crazier…. Well hey.. This is Archive after all.. I am now off to hit a shaker against a snare drum.. Darius thinks it will sound amazing.. Who am I to argue.
I’m very happy to be able to tell you that I am sat in the studio with Darius, Smiley and Jerome waiting for Smiley’s drums to arrive. It’s 10am and our first day of recording the new album! after many a month of writing and making noise in our respective kitchens, lounges and bedrooms we have finally made it here for the next stage in the process and we are all very happy about it, believe me it feels like coming home and in fact we will be living here for the next 2 weeks while we work (if you can call making music work).
We start with Smiley (who is now setting up the drums he’s hired and there’s a lot of them, it’s like being back in the 80s) for 2 days then move on to Noicey and his basses for another 2 days and so on and so forth. This should get the backbone of the tunes sorted and then we can move on and get the rest of the bunch in over the weeks.
Julian will be coming to stay for a while to document some of the session and keep you updated with what’s going on. There’s not much else for me to say for now but stay tuned. Better go Smileys started to make some noise…….Take care
